Bill was an excellent scholar and an inspiration - he was a great champion, and I'm fortunate to have spent time with him over the years. He was always supportive and willing to work collaboratively, pushing the discipline of history forward. He pioneered many areas, but the history of accidents influenced me the most and has shaped my work greatly. He was so proud of his family, and never failed to update me on the latest news.
